First post-divorce stunner

This is one of my all time favorite stories.

I met a man named Stephen Finnegan and we began dating right after my divorce.  He was just ending is third marriage.

We were dating about six weeks when I needed to go to the emergency room.  (Ended up being gallstones that I had to deal with two months later).  My friend dropped me off at my house and he picked me up to keep me overnight.  I must stress that this was not a physical relationship.  A little kissing but that was it.

I wanted to watch a certain TV show but he didn’t, so I was sent to the guest room to watch it on a screen that was smaller than my computer.  He was a very good cook, so he made me a nice dinner and brought it up to me.

He had already told me that he would sleep in his bed with me in case I had any problems during the night.  Worked for me since my ex had an invisible line down the middle of our king-size bed that I was not allowed to cross.  Stephen was big (a little too chubby), but compared to my ex who is 5’9 and about 140 pounds, 6’4 and 260 was a pleasant change.

I laid down after he said he would be up in a few minutes.  After about a half hour, I went down to see what he was doing.  He was watching porn while talking with a guy friend who was also watching it at his house.  That was a big new one for me.

I guess the porn was good because he didn’t come up for another 30 minutes.  I finally heard him, but he never came into his room.  After about 15 minutes, I got up and found him in the guest room bed.  Curious as I was about most of his behavior, I dared to ask.  He said he couldn’t sleep in a bed with me because he was going to try to work it out with his third ex-wife.

Did I mention that said ex-wife had stolen almost $100k from him and disappeared while he was at work, taking everything valuable in the house with her?  Obviously, his choice made complete sense.

I said to him that he should take me home if he felt that way.  We had never had an argument, I accepted his mental break with reality politely and did absolutely nothing to be subjected to what he said to me the entire ride home.

He announced to me that I was a man repellant and no man would ever love me.  Think of any version of that and I am sure he relayed that to me as well on the short ride home.  Huh?  It became an incredibly funny story to tell to friends and future boyfriends until I realized that none of men ever did love me and actually left me after a few months.

It’s not quite so funny seven years later.

Now, this is funny.  For a while I owned a florist and received a call one day from a man wanting to send his daughter a plant at her new job.  It was at the company Stephen owned.   I hadn’t seen him in about three years, but I couldn’t resist delivering them myself.  (Besides, I looked extra cute that day!)

It is a small office so he saw me take them into his new employee’s office.  He was outside of his door in about 10 seconds so he could chat with me.  Turns out that he was completely grey and about 40 pounds heavier, to my “cute” self.

I discovered that he was now divorced FOUR times!  He was about 42 at the time, so do the math.  I was the loser?  I burst out the four times thing to him and he was doing the shushing sign.  It was an amusing 10 minutes for me.

Four years later, I needed to use the services of one of the other offices in his building.

I couldn’t resist.

I chatted with the receptionist and casually brought his name into the conversation.  I found out he was on wife number FIVE.

I was lucky I following a time-honored tradition.

I dodged a bullet all by being a man repellant…

Thank GOD!

Donna, you would not believe the stories I have on this person. They are absolutely unbelievable and your story is not at all surprising to me.

We have got to share. If you’re interested, reply to this comment and we’ll get in touch.

Absolutely, I would love to share! Where do you fall in the timeline?

I knew it was only a matter of time before I named someone that one of my readers would know.
